Obituary of John Wesley Sorrell, Sr.

John Wesley Sorrell, Sr. of Mounds went to be with our Lord on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma. John was born in Overland Park, Kansas on February 26, 1942 to parents John William and Mini Mae (Byrge) Sorrell. John served in the U.S. Marine Corp and later worked as a glass production mechanic. He was a serious man and was strict while raising his children, however, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were another story. He loved them all and was much more easy-going with them. John enjoyed working on cars, selling junk metal, watching NASCAR and collecting NASCAR memorabilia. He was preceded in death by his wife Bertha Ernst Sorrell; son William Emery Sorrell; great-granddaughter Leah Marie Hope Lane; great-grandson Brayden Ryan Whiner; brother William Sorrell; and sister Lea Staley. He is survived by three children, Cynthia Sorrell James of Tulsa; John Sorrell, Jr. of Sand Springs; and Sharon Sorrell of the home. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and friends. John will be missed but he will remain in the hearts of those who love him. Funeral Services are scheduled at 10:30 am Monday, December 5, 2016 at Green Hill Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Green Hill Memorial Gardens.
