Obituary of Nona Lynne Hessman

Nona Lynne Hessman, 63, of Kellyville, OK passed away on Monday, Jan 2, 2017 at St. John's hospital, watching one last OU victory. She was born July 21, 1953 in Tulsa, OK to James and Almeda Potter. She graduated from East Central High School in 1971. On June 7th, 1975 she married David Hessman and for 42 years they built a home together, raising two sons, James and Jeremy. Nona worked many jobs during her life, from spending time on the floor at a steel company to working as an insurance agent, an OBGYN office manager, and a decade as office manager for Bells Amusement Park. During her free time, Nona enjoyed collecting a few dolls here and there and everywhere. Okay, fine, she had more than a few dolls, she had an entire house full. She also liked traveling to Branson and anything related to the University of Oklahoma. No matter the sport, she was an avid OU supporter, rarely missing a game and hating all things orange, both bright and burnt. She would spend many weekends traveling around the connecting states doing family genealogy with her older brother, Tommy. Anyone who knew Nona well knew Christmas was her favorite holiday, dedicating an entire bookcase to Santa Claus. And as the electric company can attest to, she enjoyed decorating the front yard with lights and inflatable decorations for all the world to see (even though she never lived in town and only her family and a bus load of school kids ever saw them). Nona enjoyed giving back to the community. She was an active member of the Kellyville PTA and Little League Baseball Association for many years, serving as President at one time for both organizations. She dedicated nine years to the Kellyville School Board, spending many weekends at education conferences and lectures. She has also spent the last few years as a member of the Kellyville Chamber of Commerce. She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Almeda Potter, and brothers, Thomas and Charles Potter. She is survived by her husband, David Hessman of Kellyville; her two sons, James Hessman & Michelle Hobbs of Kellyville, OK and Jeremy Hessman & Heather Arnett of Norman, OK; her eight grandchildren, James Hessman II, Nicholas Hessman, Jocelyn Hessman, Lily Hessman, Jack Hessman, Alex Merrell, Samantha Merrell, and Christina Hobbs and great-granddaughter, Maxine Hessman. She is also survived by her brother, James & Kim Potter of Kansas and sister, Cleta Stewart of Arkansas as well as countless nieces, nephews and cousins.
