Obituary of Genevieva Mary Prince

Genevieve Mary Prince, fondly known as “Gen” and “Geneva”, began to fill the pages of her book on July 5, 1942 in Sapulpa, Oklahoma.  She was the first-born child to parents Elizzie Bell Rose Mack and Solomon James Rose Sr.

At an early age, Gen accepted her faith in the Lord. She joined the Church of God (W.H.P.W.H.O.B) where she was baptized by Overseer John B. McElwee. Attending school at Booker T. Washington in Sapulpa, she enjoyed performing with the school band as a majorette. She then met and married Overseer Matthew Roberson, Sr. and to this union 5 children were born. Later, she married Lloyd Lee Prince. Both husbands preceded her in death.

True to her bold nature, she was the first female sanitation worker in Sapulpa and worked alongside men to provide for her young family. She later worked as a nurse for 25 years in various nursing homes and at Tulsa Public Schools until her retirement.

Gen passed of natural causes on October 18, 2017, in Kansas City, Missouri at the age of 75.

She is preceded in death by her daughter Verda Bell Grant and her siblings Sgt. Solomon (Sonny) Rose Jr., Arthur Lee Rose, Victoria Jones and Erma Jean Jones.

Gen is survived by her children Matlon Hill (Eddie) of Mt. Hermon, LA; Matthew Roberson, Jr. of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Marian Dansby (Calvin Sr.) of Waco, TX and Isaac Roberson (Rita) of Tulsa, Oklahoma; her sister Linda Kay Jones, of Sapulpa, Oklahoma; her aunt Gladys Cage of Kansas City, Missouri, her uncle Franklin McElwee of Sapulpa, Oklahoma; 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Geneva enjoyed life and lived it on her terms. Her family and friends will always remember her as a passionate and generous person. Her vibrant energy will be greatly missed.
