Obituary of Opal Orender

Services for Opal Orender will be held on Saturday, January 26, at 1:00 at Inola Christian Church. Visitation will be held at the Green Hill Funeral Home in Owasso on Friday, January 25, 2019 from 4 to 8 with family greeting friends from 6 to 8.

Opal Faye Orender, age 80, long time resident of Inola, passed away at her home surrounded by her husband and family on Tuesday, January 22, 2019. She was born February 26, 1938 in Claremore, Oklahoma to Charlie and Velma (Tackett) Townsley. Opal was the third of three children; sisters Patsy Kirkland and Betty Jensen (deceased) were her friends and confidantes throughout her life.

Opal attended Claremore schools but left in her Senior year to marry a certain fellow, the love of her life, Charlie Donald Orender.  She later earned her GED. Opal and Don were married on October 7, 1955 in San Antonio, Texas where Don was stationed in the Army. Their first son, Rodney Allen, was born while in Texas. The couple returned to Claremore and two more sons were added to the family; Jeffrey Randall and Calvin Wane. Opal’s main focus in life was to be a loving daughter, wife, and mother to her three sons. Opal and Don also provided a loving and safe haven for any children who were having a hard time, always providing lots of love, hugs, and of course good food.

Opal worked at Collins Drug Store in the soda fountain. She was always proud that she made really good Cokes. She also worked for many years at Inola Elementary School as secretary; loving all the students there as much as her own. She was working as Accounts Payable Clerk in Inola Schools Administration when she retired after 34 years with the school.

Opal loved to cook and her family spent many many Sundays eating her wonderful home-cooked dinners. She and Don loved to go to garage sales and look for treasures and take long road trips, many times taking other family members along for the ride. Opal loved her husband, her boys and their children and grandchildren with all her heart. She spent many hours reading to them, teaching them, and singing “You are my Sunshine” to them.

Opal is survived by her husband, Don Orender, of the home, sister Pasty Kirkland of Sand Springs, sons Rodney Orender and wife Jeannie of Claremore, Jeff and wife Nakita, Calvin and wife Beth both of Inola. Grandma Opal had seven grandchildren Jennifer Vickrey and husband Jason, Joshua Orender and wife Allison, Trisha Miller and husband Shawn, Tiffany Farrar and husband Tyler, Jodi Cox and husband Kirby, Ross Orender and wife Karlie and Tessa Orender. She was also blessed with ten (and one on the way) great grandchildren.
