Obituary of Barbara Sue Blaylock

Please share a memory of Barbara to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Barbara Sue Blaylock, wife, mother, grandma and great grandma went to be with Jesus on May 14, 2019, where she will be eternally healthy and at home with Christ.  Barbara was born on October 4, 1937, in Fort Worth, Texas to Lydia Elizabeth and Arby Eric Thompson.  They moved to Fort Smith where she grew up with her sister and best friend Delores, and five brothers, Keith, Glenn, Wayne, Bruce and Gary.  That is where Barbara was a band majorette and met her husband of 61 years, Bob Blaylock. They married on October 3, 1957 with a small wedding in her home.

Bob’s career with the St. Louis Cardinals took them to Rochester, New York, Omaha, Nebraska and even to St. Louis, Missouri.  Eventually making their home in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  In 1957 their oldest daughter Robyn was born, their son Russ in 1959, and their youngest daughter Terri in 1961.

Barbara was a homemaker before she got her real estate license, then she became owner of the Saratoga Restaurant.  Barbara never met a stranger and always greeted her many customers and friends with her beautiful smile.  She loved serving others and her home was always open to family members and friends that needed a place to stay during hardships in their lives.

Bob and Barbara moved to Talala in 1980 where she was able to pursue her love for horses.  She learned to ride English and enjoyed entering her horse Dudette in shows.

Barbara was a great dancer, we always loved watching her and her brothers do the jitterbug at our family reunions which she loved organizing!  She was very competitive too, whether it was tennis, ping pong, poker and even leg wrestling her brothers.  She loved to win!!

Bob and Barbara became grandparents in 1983.  She said “there is nothing better than being a grandma.”  They have nine grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.  She loved taking the grandkids on outings, never without her camera, and like it or not, posing was a must.  She was a great photographer.  Watching her grandchildren’s sports brought her much joy.

Barbara’s love for Jesus and her family were the most important part of her life! We are so blessed to have had a Momma that taught us the love of Jesus and the importance of family.  We will miss her immensely.  She will remain with us in spirit until we meet again in heaven.

Barbara was preceded in death by her dear mother and father, loving mother and father-in-law, brother Keith, brother- in-law Harold, nephew Bobby and many aunts and uncles.  She is survived by the love of her life Bob Blaylock of Talala,  Oklahoma, daughter Robyn of Fayetteville, Arkansas, son and daughter-in-law Russ and Shannon Blaylock of Skiatook, Oklahoma and daughter and son-in-law Terri and Rodney Beal of Owasso, Oklahoma, nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, one sister, four brothers and many nieces and nephews.
