Obituary of Jennett Josephine Kohlmeyer

Please share a memory of Jennett to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Jennett “Jan” Josephine (Morris) Kohlmeyer of Skiatook, OK passed away on Sunday, June 11, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Jerome, AZ on August 15, 1942, to Alice Josephine (Crowder) Morris and Jhon Walter Morris, Jan was one of six children. In 1952 the Morris family moved to Skiatook, OK where Jan attended school from 5th through the 10th grade before they then settled in Ramona, OK where Jan graduated high school in 1960. After high school Jan started her own family and explored nearly all that Oklahoma had to offer before finally making her way back to Skiatook, to join all three of her children, for good in 2004.

Jan was a loving and fun-spirited soul who had many hobbies and talents, but it was the simplest pleasures in life that brought her the greatest joy. She had an uncanny ability to be immensely fascinated by any of the many interests adopted by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed a good meal and a fair amount of teasing with family, going to the casino or playing bingo with friends, long drives, good music, and a few spins around any dance floor. Jan was a friend to everyone and a stranger to no one.  Her charismatic attitude and friendly nature allowed her to build lifelong friendships.  Of the many jobs she has held over the years, she enjoyed the one where she was able to serve other people, such as working as a waitress or as the laundry lady at the Tulsa Nursing Home. She enjoyed live music and loved Elvis.  She really enjoyed going to Country Music Concerts to see artists like Merl Haggard, Willie Nelson, and the Beach Boys and reading about their lives. She enjoyed daily Soap Operas; her favorite was the Young and the Restless.  Her favorite pastime after retiring was Bingo.  She was also very passionate about taking care of those that she loved.  Her mother taught her to crochet, which is a skill not very appreciated today but making things for her kids, grandkids and friends made her very happy.

Before discovering that grandchildren were life’s actual greatest blessing, Jan would have said that her three children were her greatest accomplishments: Michael Dewayne Tatum born May 12, 1962; Karen Lea (Tatum) Harvel born October 29, 1964; and Herman William Kohlmeyer born December 29, 1971.

Jan is predeceased by her mother and father, her daughter, Karen, and siblings: Alice Marie Holeman, Jhon Walter Morris Jr., Lona Mae Goodwin, and Jimmie Lee Morris. She is survived by her brother, Roy Morris; by both her sons: Michael, and Herman with his wife, Becky; by her grandchildren: Alisha and Larry Burrows, Lori and Jared Basey, Jessika and Doug Hudson, Sarah and Sean Wynn, Megan Tatum, Tereasa Tatum, Dakota Kohlmeyer, and 21 great-grandchildren; along with a host of cousins, nieces and nephews, and friends that she loved as family.

In honor of Jan’s life, a Memorial Celebration will be held Saturday, June 24, 2023, at 2:00 PM, at the VFW located 13319 N. Cincinnati Ave., Skiatook, OK 74070.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to North County Nursing and Rehabilitation in Collinsville, OK.
