Obituary of Robert Lee McGuire, II

Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Robert Lee McGuire II was born on May 31, 1954, to R.L. McGuire I and Deanie McGuire in Andrews, Texas. He departed the world on February 8, 2025, at the age of 70 years old.

Robby was a passionate bull rider for much of his youth and adolescent years, beginning with The Little Britches Rodeo Club. He helped introduce the first Bull riding rodeo program at his school. He also qualified for, and rode in, the National Finals Championship for the highly competitive American Junior Riding Association circuit in West Texas in 1971. He was a highly skilled bull rider and loved to tell stories of his riding days. Robby graduated from Odessa High School in May of 1972. After high school, he attended a Junior college, where he played on the golf team. Golf was also a big love of his. The golf course was one of his favorite places to be.

Robby worked as a machinist his entire life. He began in the oil field industry in West Texas, shortly after he left college. He worked hard and was praised for his sharpness at his craft. Eventually, he spent over two decades working as a machinist for American Airlines in Tulsa, OK. He was a fierce competitor. While working for American, he enjoyed playing men’s slow pitch softball. You could often find him at the ball fields, playing short stop, having the time of his life.

Robby was united in marriage with Theresa McGuire on August 24, 1985, and from this union came their three children, Tera, Tonya, and Bobby Lee. He shared his love of golf and softball with his children at an early age. He would occasionally let his son skip school so the two of them could play golf together instead. He was an icon at the softball fields, where he was the 3rd Base Coach for his daughters’ team, the Dream Team. Robby was deeply loved and respected by all his softball players. His contagious smile and crazy antics have long been remembered by everyone in his softball family. Along with softball and golf, fishing was a favorite pastime he enjoyed with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Deanie McGuire, his sister, Donna Colley, and his wife, Theresa McGuire. He is survived by his daughter Tera Landrum and husband Aaron of Sapulpa, OK, daughter Tonya Morton and husband Anthony of Glenpool, OK and son Bobby McGuire and wife Sara, of Beggs, OK, and his seven grandchildren Clara Landrum, Gunnison Landrum, Sage Landrum, Sawyer Landrum, Wells Landrum, Lainey McGuire, and Sadie McGuire.

In our hearts we have all of our good times. We love you. “Grip it and rip it!” -Dad.
