Patti Jo Barger Obituary

Patti Jo (PJ) Barger (Courtney) accomplished God’s Ultimate Will of living with Him forever in glory at the age of 66 on February 23, 2025. She passed on to glory because of a rapidly advancing recurrence of cancer. She was residing in Sapulpa, Oklahoma with her husband, Blane.

Patti was born on July 17, 1958, in McKinney, Texas to Phillip Patrick and Della Jo (Carpenter) Courtney. Her father was a pastor and therefore, she lived in several different cities and states. Some of the most impactful places in her life were Westlake and Jennings, Louisiana where the Cajun influences settled in and spiced up her life and instilled in her the close, warm fellowship of friends and family. Her teen years through adulthood were spent in Houston, Texas where she graduated from high school and business school and developed her much-valued work ethic. It was in Houston where she built her wonderful family, met her forever soulmate, and established a beautiful family structure.

The last 25 years were spent in Sapulpa, Oklahoma; a move made with deep consideration for the family and friends. She has made many strong friendships over the years, always there to support, help, and aid with unwavering selfless dedication. All who knows her witnessed how she always exuded openness, care, and love to everyone around her. She was always genuine in her concern for others. Her faith in God was always evident, and was, and always will be, a beacon shining the light to Christ our Savior.

Patti Jo enjoyed many interests and hobbies. From the time she learned how to read, she couldn’t put a book down! Music, playing the piano, and singing has always been an enormous part of her life. She was the pianist for her dad’s congregation in Houston from her teenage years until her move to the Tulsa area. She continued to help as a pianist in multiple congregations in Tulsa. Patti strongly encouraged her family to be involved in singing and playing music. She also loved to cook and was indeed an excellent cook - “Amens” here are welcome! She also loved to craft, make cards, help in projects, and even coloring. In her later years, she decided to take up quilting, even though she admittedly said she never liked to sew. She incorporated all these interests and hobbies into her ministries which made even

her quilting something she could love. Every hobby was rooted in serving; she had an astonishing capacity to love others!

Patti Jo was preceded in death by her father, Phillip Patrick Courtney. She is survived by her beloved mother, Della Jo Courtney, her husband, Blane Rene’ Barger, and her children, Kristi and Sidney (Stafford), Lauren and Kasey (Stout), and Kara-Jo, along with her grandchildren Kaleb, Judah and Lyra, her brother Danny and Lynette Courtney, sister Sherri and Mark Owens, and numerous nieces and nephews.
