Wanda Jean Kinzey Obituary

Wanda Jean Kilpatrick-Kinzey, 74, of Nowata, OK, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2025, at her home in New Alluwe, OK.

Wanda was born February 11, 1951, in Talihina, OK, to Vernon and Norma Jean McCoy. Her siblings include Louise McCoy O’Banion, Kenneth Wayne McCoy, and Jacqueline McCoy. Wanda attended school in southeastern Oklahoma until her freshman year and later played basketball and graduated from Owasso High School in 1969.

Wanda married Danny Ross Kilpatrick in the early 1970s, and they were the proud parents of three children: Kelly, Scott, and Candi. Wanda worked as a purchasing agent for a steel company but never stopped supporting her kids in everything they were involved in. She enjoyed being part of a bowling league with her best friend, Doloris, where they shared many laughs and good times. Wanda loved spending her days at the pool or the lake cabin that she and Danny purchased before he passed away in 1998.

Later, Wanda remarried and relocated to New Alluwe with John Kinzey, where she spent her days being the best Mema a kid could have to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many other lucky kids along the way.

If you knew her, you know she loved the Sooners to her core, but she would still accept an Oklahoma State gift—it just might get pushed to the back of the shelf.

She enjoyed thrifting and garage selling with her daughter and granddaughters. Always looking for a good deal, she was even known to pull up to someone cleaning out their garage and ask if they were selling anything.

A woman who shied away from no one, knew no strangers, always helped her neighbors, and cared deeply for her family. To say she will be missed is an understatement.

Wanda is preceded in death by her husband, Dan Kilpatrick; her parents, Vernon and Norma Jean McCoy; her brother, Kenneth; brother-in-law, Thomas Kilpatrick; and brother-in-law, Stanley O’Banion.

She is survived by her husband, John Kinzey, and family of Nowata; sisters Louise and Jackie of Clayton; her son Kelly and wife Melissa of Nowata; her son Scott of Owasso; and her daughter Candi of Nowata. Her grandchildren include Cody and Cooper Allen, Cayden and Caitlyn Kilpatrick, Tyler Moore and wife Rylee Moore, Hunter and Conner Moore, and Danielle Tatum. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Anna Moore and Makai Guinn, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends.
