Katherine Elizabeth Fort (Rush), age 86, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2025, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. A devoted mother, sister, and servant to her community, Kathy’s life was marked by unwavering faith, compassion, and dedication to helping others.
Born on October 25, 1938, in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Roger and Gertrude Rush, Kathy spent her early years in Berryhill with her parents and siblings. She attended Berryhill School and was active in many school activities. Her spiritual foundation was formed early at the Freewill Baptist Church in Berryhill.
In September 1954, Kathy married Donald Fort. They built a life together in Kiefer and later Bixby, Oklahoma, raising five children. She later settled in Collinsville, where she lived for over 30 years. Her deep commitment to family remained a cornerstone of her life.
Kathy dedicated nearly three decades of service to Indian Health Government Services. Most of her career was spent in Contract Health, where she worked tirelessly to connect individuals with healthcare providers outside the Indian Health system and assist them in securing payment for those services. Her efforts left a lasting impact on countless lives—many reached out over the years to express their gratitude for the care and support she helped them receive during times of great need.
Outside of her professional life, Kathy found joy in creative pursuits. She loved sewing, quilting, knitting, and crochet work. Her hands were rarely still as she crafted beautiful pieces that reflected both skill and love. She also cherished time outdoors tending to her flower gardens and yard—a peaceful retreat that brought her great satisfaction.
Kathy’s faith was central to her life. A faithful member of Rejoice Baptist Church in Owasso, Oklahoma, where she was involved with the churches prime timers group. She treasured her fellowship and friendship that was formed from her activities within the group. She attended services regularly until health challenges prevented her from doing so. Her devotion to God guided her actions and shaped the way she cared for those around her.
She is survived by two sisters, Sue Carlock of Kiefer and Pat Thomas of Sapulpa; her brother and sister-in-law Jim and Kathy Rush of Sand Springs; her children Sherrie Robinson of Jay; Rick Fort of Tulsa; Timothy Fort of Sapulpa; and Tonya Stafford and husband Todd of Brandon, Mississippi; five grandsons; and one great-granddaughter.
Kathy was preceded in death by her sisters Barbara Nobles and Linda Gant; her son Donald Wayne Fort; and granddaughter Kaitlynn Marie Stafford.
May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her.
