Mary Jo Black went to be with the Lord on the morning of Friday, May 16, 2025. She was born on January 4, 1936, in Blocker, Oklahoma to parents Dan and Ollie Belle Garvin.
Jo did many things and served many people in her life. She worked various professions throughout her 89 years, but most notably she was a small business owner and baker at Dan and Jo’s Daylight Donuts in Sapulpa, OK alongside her late husband Dan Haskell Black, of 24 wonderful years.
Jo loved to laugh and had a passion for playing cards; her skills were feared by all that knew her. She also enjoyed reading, quilting, and traveling, but most of all spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She could often be found holding a great grandchild and sneaking them candy while sitting around the table laughing with her kids and grandkids. To the very end she could be found cheering them on or celebrating them.
She was survived by children Mike (and wife Doreen) Parker and their children Amy Smith (Nick Smith), Zack Parker (Allison Parker), Steven Shoemaker (Camille Shoemaker), and Melissa (Husband Timo) Alires; Pam (Michael Clark) Wilson and her children Travis Hudson, Danielle (Husband Arron) Farrar, and Molly Wilson; Ollie Taylor and her children April (Husband Jonathan) Tate and Austin (wife Dawn) Taylor and honorary grandson Adam White; as well as her late son Rick Parker survived by his wife Rachel Parker and their children Nikki Dalton and Richard (Tiffany) Parker.
Additionally, she was survived by great grandchildren Ellie, Eli, Ethan, & Evan Smith, Stone & Ainsley Parker, Jonathan, Justin, Julianna, Jayce Shoemaker, Elizabeth Miller, Dominic Miller Davis & Jaxon Alires, Palmira Hudson, Nixon and Henlee Farrar, Addi and Millie Dalton, Kobe Parker, and Greyson & Gavin Tate, Ella, Luke, and Natalie Taylor, and honorary great grandson Roy White.
She lived a full and joyful life and was loved by many. She will be greatly missed.
The family would like to extend gratitude to Seasons Hospice for their gentle and attentive care during the last months of her life. They were a blessing to her in her final days and comfort to the family.
