Della Jo Courtney, a loving mother, Mamaw, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2025, at the age of 92 in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. She was born on December 10, 1932, in Ennis, Texas, to Marion “Bud” Carpenter and Gracie (Gibbs) Carpenter. She lived a life filled with love, laughter and a deep dedication to her family.

Della Jo was a beacon of strength and compassion, always there to offer a listening ear, a warm hug, or a helping hand. She found joy in serving others, and her home was always filled with the warmth of her smile and the aroma of good old southern food, especially the famous Carpenter’s hot tamales. She was passionate about her faith and was a living testimony to God’s wonderful saving grace.

She was a devoted wife, loving mother to Patti Jo, Danny and Sherri, and a true example of Christian faith and grace to all who knew her. Della Jo showered her family with unconditional love and unwavering support. She cherished moments spent with her grandchildren, creating memories that will forever be treasured.

On August 26, 1955, Della Jo married the love of her life, Phillip Patrick Courtney. They shared more than 58 years together, building a life filled with love and laughter. She was a pillar of strength and a constant source of support for her husband in his ministry throughout the years. She served the church faithfully through Children’s Church, Vacation Bible School, Summer Children’s Camp and Kid’s Club.

Della Jo is survived by her son, Phillip Daniel Courtney (Lynette Courtney) of Chugiak, Alaska, daughter, Sherri Owens (Mark Owens) of Sapulpa, Oklahoma; 9 grandchildren and 13 great- grandchildren; brother, JC Carpenter; and a host of other loving family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip Patrick Courtney, daughter, Patti Jo Barger, parents, Marion and Gracie Carpenter, and her siblings: Nathan Carpenter, Henry Carpenter, Mildred Roberts, Helen Hickson, Myrtle Rogers, Roy Carpenter, Frances Carpenter and Bobby Carpenter.

Della Jo’s legacy of love, faith, and service will continue to inspire generations. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
