George Lamar Evans went to be with Jesus on August 18, 2025, at the age of 77 years, 11 months and 18 days. He was born on September 10, 1947, in Glenpool, Oklahoma to Willis “Chief” Evans and Helen “Gatlin” Evans.
He graduated from Glenpool High School where he enjoyed playing basketball, even playing against the Harlem Globetrotters during a fund-raising game. Meadowlark Lemmon put a basketball in George’s jersey.
George met and married the love of his life, Shirley Ragland, in the home of Earl and Martha Ragland in Sapulpa. Sapulpa was where they lived until 2018 when they moved to Catoosa, and then Pryor. They celebrated 59 years of marriage this past year.
He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Catoosa where he loved attending Sunday School. He also loved his family, and especially spoiling his dogs.
George was preceded in death by his parents Willis and Helen, siblings Conny Evans, Jewell Kelly, Patricia Clark, Wally Evans, Loren Evans, and Karen Evans.
He is survived by his wife Shirley Evans of the home, son George Evans Jr., daughter Mindy Taylor and husband Brad, grandchildren Chelsea and Chris Carroll, Tyler, Heather and Caleb Evans, Joshua and Kayla Taylor, and Samantha and Charlie Brownlow, great grandchildren Olivia Zen Sedersten, Christopher Carroll II, Elijah Carroll, Liam Evans, Landon Evans, Noah Taylor, Keziah Taylor, Eliana Taylor, Kieran Taylor, Maci Moss, Mason Moss, and Brody and Dakota Brownlow, niece Kathy Kelly, and Uncle Jake Evans.
