We are here to honor the vibrant, selfless, beautiful life of Diana Deardurff. We lost her far too soon, but her legacy of kindness and generosity lives on.
Diana was born August 26, 1955, in Houston, Texas. She was the youngest of four children. Her father’s work took Diana across the country, from Virginia to California and everywhere in between before eventually settling in Pryor, Oklahoma. Her ferocious work ethic developed at a young age as she often spent her days in school and her evenings working at the family restaurant.
As Diana entered young adulthood, the stable family life of her sister, Barbara, caught her eye and Diana used it as a roadmap. Her relationship with Barbara was one of the more impactful of Diana’s life. To Diana, Barbara was more than a sister. She was a mentor – a hero.
Diana married Joe on October 3, 1981 – forty-four years to the day before her death. This was her most important earthly relationship. Diana was genuinely devoted to Joe and Joe to her. They modeled the self-sacrificial joy in putting one’s partner ahead of themself that every marriage needs to thrive; and theirs did. For instance, Diana had no interest - truly, zero interest – in hunting anything. But, to the very end, she was happily Joe’s most reliable hunting buddy. Not to be outdone, Joe had no interest – truly, zero interest – in antiquing. Despite that, he spent more time antiquing (and crisscrossing the country for the purpose of antiquing) than all but the most avid collectors. And always with a smile on his face and genuine joy in his heart because he knew it made her happy. Their commitment to each other was a living how-to manual.
As a mother, Diana’s judgment was impeccable. When her sons needed a hug, she knew it and she delivered. When they needed knocked back in line, she knew it and she delivered. As a grand-mother, her love and affection for Chloe, Jack and Scout was excessive bordering on cringe-worthy.
Diana loved Jesus first and Joe second. Her grandchildren took third and her children and Donald Trump roughly tied for fourth. Beyond that she loved her dogs, crafting, venison, Precious Moments, decorating her home, Elvis, barbecue, going to the movies (but not choosing the movie), sea salt dark chocolate caramel, eBay, identifying incompetence, Beanie Babies and aggressive driving. On the other hand, she detested passive driving, indecisiveness and liver & onions. Diana was an outspoken advocate of her family and friends. She never backed down from an opportunity to either defend her faith or pronounce it with loving kindness. She will be missed beyond measure.
Diana was preceded in death by her dear mother and father, loving mother and father-in-law, brother Ray, sister Marlene, brothers-in-law Ted and Dave, sister-in-law Donna and many aunts and uncles. She is survived by the love of her life Joe of Collinsville, sister and brother-in-law Barbara and Charlie of Pryor, sons and daughter-in-law Chris, Ryan and Julie, grandchildren Jack, Scout and Chloe, sister-in-law, Marilyn, and nieces and nephews Charla, Gina and Chris.
