Mark graduated from South High School, Wichita, Kansas, in 1968.

He received a BS from Park University, an MBA from Webster University, an Ed.D., and a Ph.D. from Nova Southeastern University.

In 1987, Mark was Data Manager at Butler County College, where he also taught Computer Science. In 1998, he began teaching Computer Science for Friends University and later managed Online Learning. Mark retired from Friends University in 2016.

Mark and his wife Mary enjoyed traveling and growing orchids, which they exhibited and sold from their greenhouse. The Sanborns received more than 80 American Orchid Society awards for their orchid plants.

Health influenced the Sanborns to relocate to Claremore near their children. Without a greenhouse, they now enjoy growing miniature succulents in their home.
