David Earl Gilliland Obituary

David E. Gilliland left this world peacefully at his home on October 26, 2025.  David was born on August 5, 1941, in Ralston, OK to Reverand L.G. and Gertrude Gilliland. He graduated from Sapulpa High School in 1960 and then attended Oklahoma State University.  Soon after, David met and married Gloria Christine Robertson and they welcomed two sons, Joseph Donald, and David Ray.

Early in his career, he was a very skilled and exact carpenter who took great pride in his craftsmanship, leaving his signature on many buildings in Sapulpa. Later in his career, David served his community, working as both City Commissioner and Assistant City Manager for the City of Sapulpa.

David’s greatest passion was his family, whom he loved deeply.  He is survived by his wife of 57 years Chris Robertson Gilliland, his loving sons Joe Don and Davey, daughter-in-law Melissa, his pride and joy grandson Ian, nephews Jeff Gilliland and Jerry Lockridge, and nieces Cindy Lynn and Tracy Shaw.

He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings and their spouses John Gilliland and Marie, Ida Moses, Hazel Lockridge and James, and Gib Gilliland and Katherine, niece Janette Moses Perry, and nephews Bobby Moses, Butch Gilliland and Jimmy Don Thompson.

David lived his life with integrity and joy.  He woke up happy every single day.  His family is thankful that he is at peace and joined with his loved ones, but we will miss him every day, always.
