Shirley Mae Smith was born on September 15th, 1935, in Sperry, OK, to parents James Boyd Johnson and Anna Pearl Johnson. She passed peacefully at home on December 14th, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. 

She was quite the basketball player at Avant High School, where she met her future husband, Wayne Smith. Soon after graduating, they married. In 1958, they were blessed with their first child, Renee Smith. Five years later, their son Dennis Smit, was born. 

Once the kids had started school, Shirley started working at Edison High School as a cook. She soon transferred to Sapulpa High School, where she became the cafeteria manager until her retirement.

Every fall, Shirley and her sister Joann, niece Debbie, and Debbie’s sister-in-law would make their way to Arkansas to War Eagle and surrounding craft festivals, not stopping until they hit them all. Dad and Uncle JD would be their drivers. She also enjoyed camping yearly in the Branson area, as well as antiquing with her son Dennis and his husband, Joe. 

Shirley was known for taking wonderful trips with her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. Let it be known that when traveling with Shirley, you would lack nothing. She was always prepared with snacks and anything else you might need for the trip; She was a very organized lady.

Please don’t forget she and her sister were big OU fans in a house divided to say the least. 

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, husband Wayne, and 3 siblings.

She is survived by her daughter Renee Stice, son Dennis Smith, son-in-law Joe Wells, granddaughter Shawna Stice, great-grandchildren Colton Banks, Adriana, Brandon Banks, great-great-grandchildren, Brailey Banks, and Oakleigh Banks, and many nieces and nephews.
