Bertrom McLain Obituary

Bertrom Demond McLain

August 15, 1972 – June 10, 2026

Bertrom Demond McLain, lovingly known as Bert, passed away on June 10, 2026, at the age of 53. Bert was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend whose presence brought laughter, kindness, and generosity to the lives of those who knew and loved him.

Bert was born on August 15, 1972, to Glenn Edward McLain and Jackie Johnson in Amarillo, Texas. He spent his childhood in California before eventually settling in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, where he would attend high school beginning with his freshman year. From a young age, Bert enjoyed playing sports, attending church, and building friendships that lasted throughout his life.

He continued his education through high school and some college and went on to build a career working with Bios, Asplundh, G4S, and Quality Machine Shop. Bert was someone who believed in showing up, working hard, and helping others whenever he could.

Bert was known for his generous heart, sense of humor, and love for adventure. He was the kind of person who never complained, he simply showed up when someone needed him. He was honest, even when the truth was difficult, and those who knew him respected him for his loyalty and character.

A familiar sight to many was Bert wearing his favorite hat and Jordans, often with a basketball in hand … always ready for a pickup game if he happened to pass by a park. He was a Lakers fan through and through and loved music of all kinds. Bert also enjoyed his time as a dancer with his singing group, sharing his talents and bringing joy to those around him.

Bert is survived by his beloved wife of 20 years, April (Burgin) McLain, and their son, Devon Taylor. He is also survived by his mother, Jackie (Butler) Johnson, and her husband, Tommy Johnson; his sister, Megan McLain-Thomas, and her husband, Korey Thomas; along with several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Bert was preceded in death by his father, Glenn McLain; his maternal grandparents, Rudolph and Ola Butler; his uncle, Michael Butler, and his wife, Sharon Butler; his aunt, Gwendell Butler; his cousin, Antoinne Alberts; his paternal grandparents, Mabel Neal and her husband, Reverend James Neal Sr.; and his aunt, LaShon Neal.

Bert will be remembered for his laughter, his willingness to help, his honesty, and the love he showed to the people around him. His legacy will live on through the many lives he touched and the memories that will continue to be cherished by his family and friends.
