Obituary of Norman Edward Penick

Norman Edward Penick, 79, passed away April 26, 2022 at the residence of his son, Jonathan Penick, in Tulsa, OK. Born April 30, 1942 to Marvin E. and Norma R. Penick in Elkhart, KS, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at a young age. Norman graduated from Lakin Rural High School, Lakin, KS in 1960. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1961 to 1966. During his time in the service as Third Class Petty Officer, he served as an ASW (Anti-Submarine Warfare) crew member and Second Radio Operator patrolling from a Lockheed P2V Patrol Bomber aircraft. He was deployed to a number of locations including Alaska, Okinawa, Japan, Vietnam, with stops in Philippines, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Hawaii, and Guam among others. After his military service, Norman completed his aircraft maintenance training at Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa, OK and earned all of his flight ratings at Riverside Airport in Tulsa, OK. He was a Flight Instructor at Spartan School of Aeronautics from 1970 to 1976. He held several Commercial Pilot positions for various companies including Viking Petroleum, Getty Oil, CITGO Petroleum, and Frates Properties. After retiring from a commercial pilot career, he drove professionally for Pacesetter Coach Lines. He was an active member of the Bible Baptist Temple (now New Heights Baptist Church) of Tulsa, OK from 1966 to 2022. Preceding him in death were his parents, Marvin E. and Norma R. Penick, his wife, Mary Ellen (Carter) Penick (1966-1991), his second wife, Virginia Ann (Smith-Kuykendall) Penick (1994-2018), brother-in-law, Doug Crabtree and sister-in-law, Linda Penick. Norman is survived by his sons Marvin W. Penick (Jeanie) of Stanley, WI, Jonathan E. Penick (Leah) of Tulsa, OK and his daughter, Margaret A. Brown (Bill) of Yorba Linda, CA; nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter by his wife, MaryEllen, and seven stepchildren, many step-grandchildren and step-greatgrandchildren. Also surviving Norman are three brothers: Andrew Penick, Lakin, KS, Bernarr Penick (Sue), Lakin, KS, Stephen Penick (Cathy), Pawnee Rock, KS, and two sisters: Virginia Crabtree, Amado, AZ and Vivian Baldwin (Trevor) Owasso, OK as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held at New Heights Baptist Church in Tulsa, OK, Saturday, April 30, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at the Lakin Cemetery in Lakin, KS on Monday, May 2, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to the Missions Fund at New Heights Baptist Church, 8611 E. 21st St., Tulsa, OK 74129
