Obituary of Jackie Dee Huffman
On July 8, 2024, Jackie “Jack” Huffman, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at the age of 90. He was born on June 4, 1934, in Kiefer, Oklahoma to Lloyd Vern and Mary Ella Huffman. He was the youngest of eight children (5 brothers and two sisters). He began his career at Kiefer in 1940 as a first grader playing football, basketball, and softball. In 1951 the football team was awarded the District Championship. He graduated in 1952 and continued to support Kiefer Schools for the next 72 years. Jack had a passion for Kiefer High School Sports. He was a true “Trojan” for life.
Jack attended Connors State College from 1952 – 1954 on a football scholarship, where he received his degree in Journalism. In 1955 he was the catcher for the World Championship Softball Team with Sapulpa Brick and Tile. He also enjoyed bowling, and he played golf well into his 80s. After graduation, Jack began working for Oklahoma Natural Gas until he was drafted into the Army in 1956. He was stationed in Korea for fourteen months in with the 1st Cavalry Division and continued to serve in the reserves until 1962. Jack returned to ONG and retired with over 40 years of service as a Meter Specialist.
Jack married the love of his life on October 24, 1958, Ethlyn “Bo” Bobo, in Sapulpa and in 1964 welcomed one daughter, Holly. Bo passed away on August 2, 1989. Jack never took off his wedding ring, wearing it until his final day. Jack was a proud grandfather to three grandsons: Braden, Brock, and Cooper who called him “Papa.” Jack was Holly’s rock. He stayed busy running his grandsons to all their practices and never missed a game or event. He spent his retirement making sure the boys had the opportunity to be involved in all their interests and always showing his love for his family through his actions. He also valued his friendships. Jack and Dude Ausmus were friends for over 85 years, and all the guys still met monthly for dinners until Jack’s passing.
He solved the problems of the world over coffee with his friends.
Jack is survived by daughter Holly of Glenpool; three grandsons: Braden, Brock, and Cooper; nephew Howard and wife Deanna Rogers of Kansas; niece Linda Huffman and husband Cliff Gaylor of New Mexico, and many great-nephews and great-nieces.
His spirit and humor will always be remembered and dearly missed.
