Obituary of Eleanor Ann Lake

Please share a memory of Eleanor to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Eleanor Ann Thompson Lake, 92, of Sapulpa, Oklahoma was born on June 17, 1931, to Ross and Ethel Thompson at Morningside Hospital (the forerunner of Hill Crest Medical Center). She passed away on January 1, 2024, at BeeHive Homes of Glenpool. Her mother was a teacher in Tulsa and Sapulpa. Her father was an independent oil operator, and Eleanor began her life on an oil lease in Wolco, Oklahoma, moving with the family to Turley in 1932, eventually moving to Sapulpa in 1941 where she lived for 80 years.

Eleanor married Jack H. Johnson on November 28, 1952, and they had one daughter, Beverly Susan. After the passing of Jack, Eleanor married Chuck on September 2, 1961, and had one daughter, Carol Ann.

Eleanor graduated from Sapulpa High School in 1949. She was involved in several activities including Tri-Hi-Y, a Christian affiliated group and Girls State, learning about the state of Oklahoma government operations. Eleanor attended TU for two years, earning a Secretarial Certificate. She worked at Gulf Oil, and after marrying Chuck, she became a homemaker and managed couple’s rental properties.

She was involved in her community and family life. She loved playing bridge, cross stitching, toll painting, award-winning quilting, gardening and supporting her two girls in school and in adulthood. She also of course loved spoiling her grandchildren and her great grandchildren. She had a dear circle of bridge friends that she played with every month for years. She was proud of all her children, spouses and grandchildren who all graduated from OU. She is hopeful that the great grandchildren will follow.

Eleanor attended First Christian Church in Sapulpa and was a member of The Builder’s Sunday School Class where she was involved in the Church Benevolence outreach activities, delivering meals on wheels, school tutoring and hospital volunteering.

She is survived by her husband Chuck Lake, daughters Beverly Susan and husband John, Carol Ann and husband Jeff, grandchildren Sarah Smart and husband Jerad, John Light and wife Haley, Kathryn Bowron and husband Josh, great grandchildren Luke Smart, Madelyn Smart, Emma Light, Lucy Light, Tristan Light, sister in law Doris Marie Cooper Powell and husband Ed, niece Lisa Waters Youngquist and husband Steve, nephew Jeffery Waters and wife Shelly, and a host of nieces nephews and many dear friends.

The family would like to give special thanks to the BeeHive Homes of Glenpool for all the loving and compassionate care you provided, we love you!

The family has entrusted Green Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery for their arrangements.
