Obituary of HOUSTON Lee DAMET

Houston was born August 14, 1931 in Wagoner, Oklahoma where he attended grade school, Jr. High school and most of High school. During WWII, while Houston was living in Wagoner, a train load of soldiers stopped on the rail road tracks that were near his house. When he saw this, Houston went to the melon patch and picked all the melons and he gave them to the soldiers. A few years later Houston became a big brother to Billie (Rice) Damet. Houston finished High School in Coffeyville, Kansas. After graduating he attended Coffeyville Community College for a time, before going into the Army. Houston was a 2 year veteran of the Korean War. While in Korea, Houston won the Bronze Star for valor along with other citations. Following the war Houston worked as a millwright and lived in Coffeyville, Kansas; Atlanta, Georgia; Tulsa, Oklahoma; Longmont, Colorado; Fredonia, Kansas and Zanesville, Ohio before finally moving to Sapulpa, Oklahoma. After moving to Sapulpa, Houston met and married his wife of 26 years, Mildred. Houston worked the rest of his career at IMCO in Sapulpa where he was instrumental in the installation of computerized systems which were used for pollution controls as required by the EPA. After retirement, Houston remained very active. His and Mildred's skills in woodworking were used to make hope chests, various display cases and several pieces of furniture for his family and friends. He also enjoyed fishing. His and Mildred's fishing adventures took them all over the United States, Gulf Coast and Alaska. While he was at home, he enjoyed fishing at the Pretty Water Lake for trout and catfish. Houston was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather who had a unique sense of humor. He is survived by his Wife Mildred; sons Martin (Kay) Damet of Edgerton, KS; John (Sandra) Damet of Johnson, NE; John (Jamie) Carr of Sapulpa; Ks; Jo Ann (Dale) Michaelson of Broomfield, CO; Marrill Gene (Anna) Damet of Tulsa, OK; and Dale (Kym) Damet of Tampa, FL. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren and his two dogs Rusty and Sam. He is also survived by a host of friends and many loved ones. Houston was preceded in death by his parents, 3 step children, and 3 grandchildren.
