Obituary of Rex V. Hecox
Rex V. Hecox, 84, of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, passed peacefully from this life to eternity on Sunday morning, February 1, 2015, surrounded by his family.
A celebration of his life will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, February 7 at Green Hill Memorial Gardens, 400 East Teel Road, Sapulpa, Oklahoma, 74067. Reverend Randy Parker will be officiating. Burial will follow at Oakhill Cemetery in Mannford, Oklahoma. Friends may call from 12:00 pm until 9:00 pm, Thursday and 9:00 am to 9:00 pm, Friday at the funeral home.
Rex was born December 1, 1930 in Arnett, Oklahoma, to Vernon and Mary Jane (Crane) Hecox. He received his Bachelor of Divinity from The Worth Bible College in Fort Worth, Texas in 1954 and his Doctorate of Theology from Trinity Valley Baptist Seminary and College in Kennedale, Texas in 1969. On February 14, 1958, he married the former Mary Elizabeth Dempsey.
Rex will be forever remembered for his genuine compassion and love for his family, friends and – above all – his God, to whom he dedicated his life. Rex served as an Army Chaplain’s Assistant in the early 1950s and subsequently as an Ordained Pastor for more than 60 years, including work as Chaplain for Boy Scouts of America and as a teacher at Falls Creek Church Camp. He also worked for the Oklahoma Department of Human Services as a Social Worker and for the Lloyd E. Rader Center as a Juvenile Justice Specialist.
Jesus called and Rex answered.
Rex is survived by his son, Stephen and wife Elizabeth as well as his two grandchildren, Joshua and Elisha, all of Tulsa, OK. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Mary Jane; his wife, Mary and son, Gary; and siblings, William (Bill) and Mary Jean Hecox.
