Obituary of Donald Ray Ashford
Donald Ray Ashford of Kiefer, OK went to be with the Lord March 30, 2015. He was born in Cedarvale, KS on November 15, 1949 to parents James and Margie Ashford. Donnie attended Kiefer High School and graduated in 1968. Donnie married Jan Rongey on November 19, 1971. They were then blessed with two children, Dennis Ashford and Carrie (Ashford) Buck. He then gained a daughter-in-law Jennifer (Rector) Ashford and son-in-law Jayme Buck. Later they were blessed with four grandchildren, Julia and Trent Ashford and Jaylee and Cooper Buck, they were the light of his life.
Donnie worked in the oil industry most of his life. He owned and operated Trojan Oil and Gas. He was also retired from the Kiefer Fire Department where he was Fire Chief for 24 years. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Kiefer. He was a member of the Kiefer Lions Club, served as a councilman and mayor for the city of Kiefer, and was also a school board member for Kiefer Public School for 6 years.
Donnie enjoyed years of playing mens softball in Sapulpa. He loved the town of Kiefer and did anything he could to make it a better place. He always enjoyed working hard and helping the Kiefer Lions Club put on the annual 4th of July fireworks celebration at the park. He would do anything for anyone and give you the shirt off his back if they needed it. Kiefer Fire Department and all of “his” guys were very near and dear to his heart. He spent several late nights down at the station swapping stories with all the guys. Other than fire, his main loves were his wife, kids and grandkids. Papaw loved being outdoors with the kids, doing anything from riding the ranger down the hill, working in the garden, picking up pecans, fishing and feeding the catfish every evening. He was at every ball game he could make and loved watching the kids play and telling the coaches what they were doing wrong.
He is survived by his wife Jan Ashford of Kiefer. His kids, son, Dennis and Jennifer Ashford, and daughter, Carrie and Jayme Buck, his grandchildren Julia Ashford, Trent Ashford, Jaylee Buck and Cooper Buck, all of Kiefer. Brothers, Ronnie Ashford and wife Karen of Twin Hills and Ricky Ashford. Aunts, Maggie Ashford, Delilah Parsley and brother-in-law Hayden Howell. Sisters and Brother-in-laws Sharon and Bob Atkins, Linda and John Surmont, Joyce Rongey, Mary and Mike Shadowens, Eddie and Tashia Rongey, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents James and Margie Ashford, sisters Debbie Howell and Brenda Jamison. His mother-in-law Elva Lou Rongey and father-in-law Ira Rongey.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations can be made to the: Kiefer Fire Department, PO Box 369, Kiefer, OK, 74041.
