Obituary of Junior Dewey Bowen
J.D. (Junior Dewey) Bowen, 83, passed away June 2, 2015 in Tulsa, OK. He was born in Creek County, South of Terlton, Oklahoma April 9, 1932 to Munnell and Fern Bowen, the oldest of 8 children.
At 17, J.D. joined the Army and served our country proudly in the Korean War, fighting in the Battle of Chosin Reservoir with the 4th Army Artillery Division. In later life, he always enjoyed his reunions with his fellow soldiers who served.
On April 3, 1953, J.D. married Elnora White at the Methodist church in Bristow, Oklahoma. They were married for 62 years and lived mostly in Sapulpa, Oklahoma.
After his Army enlistment was over, jobs were hard to find so J.D. joined the Air Force in 1958-1962 and served in Turkey from 1959-1960. He always said the food was better in the Air Force.
After the Service, J.D. was employed with Western Electric, which through the years became Southwestern Bell, AT&T and by the time he retired, Lucent Technologies. He made many lifelong friends there.
J.D. is survived by his wife, Elnora; daughter Allison Bowman and her husband Roy, of Tulsa, grandsons Joshua and Trevor Bowman of Tulsa. His sisters: Ilene Wojtyna of Bixby, Etta Witwick and husband Jim of Texas, Betty Stevenson and husband Ron of Washington. His brother: Jimmie Bowen and wife Carol of Washington.
J.D. is preceded in death by his parents, his infant son, Jeffrey Dale, sister, Merrilly Robinson, brothers, Lonnie and Toney Bowen.
J.D. loved photography, bluegrass and country music, quail and dove hunting, fishing (especially on Lake Eufala), and traveling.
Services will be held at 10:30 am Friday, June 5, 2015 at Green Hill Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation is 9 am until 9 pm Thursday at Green Hill Funeral Home.
