Obituary of WILLIS Reese WALTER, SR

Willis “Bill” Walter was born December 30, 1917 to Charles and Carolyn (Hubb) Walter in Durango, Colorado and went to be with the Lord July 18, 2015. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers; Charlie, Emil, Fritz, and Henry Walter. Bill, with his brothers and their dad, worked their farm, north of Durango and then moved to Cedar Hill, New Mexico after being flooded out by the Animas River. Bill attended Hermosa, Animas City and Cedar Hill Schools, finishing the 8th grade. When his father passed away he and his brothers had to take over the farm. After meeting the love of his life, Bonnye Otoka Crangle, they married January 13, 1942. Shortly after they married Pearl Harbor was bombed and Bill was drafted into the Army. He became a Staff Sergeant in a Mortar Platoon in the 7th Infantry Division, participating in every major offensive in the Pacific during World War II. After 4 years in the service Bill and Otoka moved to Animas City (Durango) where their daughter Shirley and son Willis Walter Jr. were born. They lived there until moving to Tulsa, Oklahoma in January of 2014. Bill was residing at the V.A. Medical Center in Claremore, Oklahoma when he passed away. Bill is survived by his wife of 73 years, Bonnye Otoka Walter; daughter Shirley (Walter) Aldridge; son Willis Walter Jr.; five grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. He was loved by his family and will be deeply missed. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 23, 2015 at Green Hill Funeral Home.
