Obituary of Cherryl Lynn Elsheimer

Cherryl Lynn Sullivan was born on March 18, 1947 to Ted R. and Opal Sullivan in Great Bend, Kansas. Cherryl spent her childhood and school days in Lindsay, Ok, Canadian, Tex. and Higgins, Tex, She graduated from high school in Higgins, Tex., in 1966. Cherryl married Richard Elsheimer on August 20, 1966 and lived in several states as Richard was on active duty with the U.S. Marine Corps. During that time, their eldest daughter Cherryl Irene (Renie) was born in December of 1967 in Omaha, Nebraska. After leaving the military, they remained in Omaha and a second daughter, Cathie Lynn was born in November of 1971. Cherryl has been very active with the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Ladies Auxiliary, serving as post president at Broken Arrow for five years, district president over 18 posts within the greater Tulsa area, and later became State President of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She has also served in positions of state secretary and state chief of staff for the auxiliary, in addition to a multitude of other appointed positions. She was serving as state deputy chief of staff as well as Collinsville post secretary at the time of her death. Cherryl would have celebrated her 46th wedding anniversary on August 20 and she and her husband had made plans for an out-of-state vacation that they have been unable to do previously due to VFW commitments. After living in numerous states and cities prior to retirement, Cherryl insisted that retirement would be in Collinsville so she could be near her two daughters and grand children. The love of her life has been Sara and Nick Downard, her grandkids. She was in contact with them on an almost daily basis and always wanted more time with them. Cherryl is preceded in death by her parents, Ted and Opal Sullivan and one sister, Jocile Hansarik. She is survived by her husband, Richard, of the home, two daughters, Cherryl Irene (Renie) Doherty and husband Sean of Collinsville, Ok, and Cathie Lynn Downard and husband Brian of Collinsville. Two grandchildren, Sara and Nick Downard of Col-linsville and two sisters, Vicky Satterwhite and husband Max of Panhandle, Texas, and Twylah Simmons and husband Dean of Hugoton, Kansas. Her brother, Ted Sullivan and wife Vina reside in Cocoa, Florida. Cherryl also leaves behind a multitude of sister VFW Auxiliary members, nieces, nephews and friends.
