Obituary of Dorothy Ann Johnston
Dorothy Ann Johnston was born March 16, 1922. She left for heaven January 28, 2016. Dorothy was born to Roy and Gladys Fox in Tabernash, Colorado. She moved with her family to Oklahoma in 1923, and lived most of her life in the Sapulpa and Mounds area. She attended Sapulpa schools until 1937, when they moved back to Colorado. She graduated from high school in Fraser, Colorado in 1940. While in school, she was known at that time as an outstanding basketball player. Dorothy accepted the Lord as her Savior October 1935 and loved the Lord with all her heart until she took her last breath, and met him in at the pearly gates.
Dorothy’s childhood sweet heart from Sapulpa, Rex Johnston, had proposed to her in a letter , drove to Colorado and they were married June 11, 1941. They made their home in the Sapulpa and Mounds area where they raised their 3 children; Bill, Annetta, and Mike. They were in love for 46 years until his passing.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mounds, Oklahoma. She also was a member of the Kiefer Community Education Association, Mounds quilting Bee, National quilting Association, Tops club in Sapulpa, member of Lydia Sunday school class at the Mounds Baptist Church. In her earlier years, she was the president of Women’s Missionary group.
During her free time, Dorothy enjoyed cross stitching, crafting, sewing, telling her childhood stories to those that visited her and teaching her granddaughters things they may want to learn about.
She is survived by her son Mike Johnston and wife Mary of Mounds; sister Ida Daniels and husband Gary of Estes Park, Colorado; brother Raymond Fox and wife Patti of Kerrville, Texas; daughter in-law Sharon Johnston of Sapulpa; Sister in-law Doris Fox of Watsonville, California; seven granddaughters, eleven great-grandchildren, and numerous great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Dorothy is also survived by many loving friends that she has made over the 93 years of her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband Rex Johnston; her son Bill Johnston of Kiefer; daughter and son in-law Annetta Wynn and husband Richard of Mounds; sister Gladys Wilson and her husband George of Littleton, Colorado;
brother Charles Fox of Watsonville California; and brother WP Fox of Tucson Arizona.
The family would like to thank The Gardens nursing home and Physician’s Choice Hospice for their assistance, support, love and compassionate care during the past several months.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at the First Baptist Church in Mounds, OK. Visitation will be from 10 am – 8 pm Monday at Green Hill Funeral Home. The family has entrusted the services to the directors at Green Hill Funeral Home. 9182242312/www.greenhillok.com
