Obituary of WILLIAM HOIPKEMIER

Please share a memory of WILLIAM to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
William Kent Hoipkemier, 87, of Sand Springs, went to be with his Lord on Monday, July 30, 2012. A true son of Oklahoma, he was a WWII combat veteran, participating in the Battle of the Bulge. An OU grad, he worked for 37 years as an engineer for Honeywell, most of them in the snowy north. He was a devoted family man and took his family on annual two-week camping trips and Christmas pilgrimages back to Oklahoma. A faithful Christian, he actively served in Southern Baptist pioneer churches as deacon, Sunday School teacher, and choir member. He was strongly independent in spirit, a total do-it-yourselfer, and avid gardener. His legacy is a strong one. His example, playful sense of humor, acute mind, steadfastness, and loyalty will be missed by his family and all of those who loved him. Bill was born on July 9, 1925 to F.W. and Ava Hoipkemier. He is survived by his brothers, Fred and Dale, his wife of 63 years, Helen (Haggard) and three sons and their families, David and his wife Rory, Mark, and Gary and his wife, Karol. Bill is also survived by seven grandchildren and their families: Adam (married to Kim), Claire (married to John), Mark (married to Naomi), Susannah, Ben (married to Lindsay), Kate (married to John), Lisa and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Kris. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Falls Creek Youth Scholarship fund of First Baptist Church, Sapulpa.
