Obituary of James Alan Deaton

James Alan Deaton of Sapulpa, Oklahoma passed away Thursday, February 25, 2016 in his home, at the age of 81. He was born February 20, 1935 in Guthrie, Oklahoma to Roy C. and Willo Goodson Deaton. He was the youngest of 7 siblings. He entered the United States Army at the age of 19 and proudly served for 2 years. He married Della Ann Robertson on August 15, 1957 and they were blessed with three children; Kimmy, Dawna and Lisa. He retired in 1995 after a long career as a machinist. He loved to fish and enjoyed squirrel hunting. He was always cracking jokes and making people laugh. “Smile…make people wonder what you’re up to” was one of his favorite catch phrases. James was preceded in death by his parents Roy & Willo Deaton; wife Della Deaton; sisters Juanita, Frances, Genoa and Betty; brothers Roy C., Jr. and Bill; and grandson Joshua Alan Deaton. He is survived by son Kimmy Deaton of Sapulpa; daughter Dawna and husband Ronnie Hurst of Mounds; daughter Lisa Hodges of Sapulpa; grandchildren Levi Deaton of Sapulpa; Amber and husband Rory Scrymgeour of Jenks; Shana and husband Patrick Arend of Jenks; Brenna and husband Jerad Traster of Prue; Evan Smith of Sapulpa; great-grandchildren Kacie, Clayton, Carson, Madden, Lane, Jentri, and Kendyll ; many nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones as well as his dog Buddy. Our family would like to say a special “Thank You” to Saint Francis Hospice for providing excellent care and making this difficult time easier. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March, 1, 2016 at Green Hill Funeral Home, with burial to follow in Green Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation at the funeral home will be Sunday from 1-8 pm and Monday from 9 am until 8 pm. The family will be at the funeral home to greet friends and family members on Monday evening from 6-8 pm.
