A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1pm, Wednesday, May 18 at Green Hill Funeral Home, 400 Teal Road Sapulpa, Oklahoma 74066. Father Louis Obirieze of Sacred Heart Catholic Church will be officiating. Daddy’s final resting place will be at the feet of Jesus in Green Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Joe was born June 8, 1943 in Tulsa, Tulsa County, Oklahoma to Homer Thomas Bennett and Marjorie Vreeland. On February 5, 1966, Joe married the love of his life, Shirley Jean Pitts. They had two children he loved very much, David Dewayne and Sheila Michele. Joe retired from the United States Postal Service. Joe served his country in the Army and the Air Force National Guard, retiring with the Air Force National Guard. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Homer Bennett and Marjorie Godbold, his sister, Betty Elois Blackford, and his brother, Homer Thomas Bennett. Papa Joe is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Shirley Jean (Pitts) Bennett of Mannford, their children, David Dewayne Bennett of Sapulpa, and Sheila Michele (Bennett) Lawson of Mannford. Papa Joe also had 5 adoring grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren and 6 adoring great-grandchildren. Family and friends were Joe’s pride and joy. He was an avid fisherman and golfer. Joe was also an excellent cook at family holiday functions, all the while spoiling the many grandkids. He was known to ride a few motorcycles. He spent the last several years golfing, relaxing, and caring for his loving wife, her sister Barbara Pitts and the family. Joe Bennett was a man of faith and integrity, taking pride in his family and community. We will miss his warm smile, his sense of humor, and words of wisdom. We will always remember the life lessons and love he gave us. Until we see you again, Papa Joe, you will be the brightest star in the sky. “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” Revelations 21:4 The family has entrusted the services to the directors at Green Hill Funeral Home. 9182242312/www.greenhillok.com
