Obituary of Steve Leslie Sagi

Steve entered this country as a Hungarian refugee on Christmas Eve 1956 at Camp Kilmer, NJ. He was soon taken in by the Ritoff family of Channahon, IL. As a part of this new family, Steve was allowed to continue on with his love of horses. They also got Steve involved in boxing in order to vent some of his aggression. As a teenager he earned the Golden Gloves state boxing title TWICE. Somewhere around 1963, Steve ventured off on a journey to Oklahoma. On this journey, he ended up working on the construction of the Saint Louis Arch. Steve quickly became interested in this type of work and joined the Iron Workers Union. He later became a member of the Local 584, here in Tulsa, OK. He was forced to an early retirement due to a serious injury to his ankle. In 1972, Steve married Lynda Hrabal-Sagi and they had two children: Megan on February 9, 1976 and John ion February 9, 1977 (YES, SAME DAY ONE YEAR APART). Lynda preceded Steve in death on April 29, 2003 after a long battle with breast cancer. Throughout his life, Steve enjoyed horses most of all. He was a lifetime member of the American Quarter Horse Association, and also was very active in the Thoroughbred horse racing industry. His horses kept him going, knowing they were depending on him after his serious ankle injury and eventual ankle amputation. He has been – and will continue to be deeply missed on this Earth. During the last few days he was alive, it was noticed by “Casanova”, (Megan’s husband as Dad called him) that Steve had been watching Church shows on the TV instead of westerns and cooking shows. I believe that I will see you again someday, Daddy! I believe you are with your Momma and family that have gone before…Most importantly our Momma! I’m so glad you all are together again. Until we meet again… I love you dearly. I hope you will be watching from above as Sagi’s Legacy and Sir Sagi on the track, the last two baby horses you saw born, Love always Megan. Steve Leslie Sagi was born on July 3, 1942 in Gyor, Hungary to parents Joseph and Maria Sagi and passed from this Earth on December 12, 2015 at his daughter’s home in Owasso, Oklahoma. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, older brother: Joseph, sisters: Magda Irene and Maria…all of Hungary. Also, preceding him in death was his wife of 25 years, Lynda Hrabal Sagi of Owasso, Oklahoma. Steve’s younger brother, Leslie Andrew Sagi, of Claremore, OK recently passed from this Earth on April 17, 2016. Steve is survived by his sister Eva of Hungary, his daughter Megan Sagi-Fisher and husband John of Claremore, OK. Son Janos Sagi and wife Amy of Old Bridge, NJ. 7 grandchildren: Leslie, Lyndsey, Tyler, Lauren, Emma, Kaylor, and Karrah. Sister-in-law Kay Sagi of Claremore, OK. Nephew Joseph Sagi of Collinsville, OK and niece Jami Beck of Owasso, OK.
