Obituary of DOROTHY SALMON

Please share a memory of DOROTHY to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Dorothy Mae Salmon was born to Walter and Ada Sanders on July 14, 1926 in Gore, Oklahoma . She was raised and attended school in the beautiful hills of the Gore/Webbers Falls area. Both of Dorothy's parents passed away when she was only 8 years old. Her brother Elzo Sanders raised her and vowed to stay with her until she was grown - which he did. Dorothy worked in the shipyards in California during the war - something most people didn't know about her. She recalled how she and the other girls would sit on a beam of the ship and watch the sailors come and go. In 1943, Dorothy met Melbourne Salmon while taking a trip on a bus. He was a handsome Marine who, while trying to flirt with her, sat on her new hat in the seat beside her, and she was NOT happy. He liked the little red haired spitfire he had just met and the romance began. Melbourne lived in Missouri , but was soon making frequent trips to Oklahoma to spend time with the new love of his life. On July 9, 1944, Dorothy and Melbourne were married in Tulsa , Oklahoma . Melbourne was still in the Marines at that time and they lived in LaJolla, California and Hastings, Nebraska, respectively. Once Melbourne was discharged from the Marines, they moved to Missouri to become farmers. They eventually moved to Tulsa , Oklahoma , where they spent the remainder of their lives. Dorothy always loved children and loved doing things and spending time with all of her nieces and nephews. After several years, they added the pitter patter of little feet to their home when they adopted their one and only child, Paula Denise. Dorothy was a Homemaker who loved her home. She loved to cook, decorate and whatever else it might take to make her home perfect. She was the original Martha Stewart, with her fabulous cooking, Of course everything was always made from scratch. Everyone loved her cooking. If there was a church dinner or a family get together, everyone would want to see what she had cooked and taken to the dinner, and her dishes were usually the ones to be emptied first. Dorothy's church family and her faith meant the world to her. At the time of her death, she was a member of Calvary Temple Assembly of God in Tulsa , Oklahoma , which she attended for many years. Prior to that, down through the years, Dorothy also attended Home Gardens Assembly of God, Bruner Assembly of God and Victory Assembly of God. She loved the Lord with all her heart and was a faithful servant and prayer warrior. Her ministry was sending cards to people for special occasions, to get well, for birthdays and anniversaries, or just to say"Thinking of you". Dorothy was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend. She will be missed. Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Paula Snider of Owasso, Oklahoma and Michael Eddy, who was like a son to her. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Leann Carrico, her husband Todd and great-grandchildren, Taylor and Gabbie of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and by her granddaughter, Lindsey Scotney and her husband Sean and great-grandchildren, Manny, Hailey, Sofeea, Luke and Scarlett of Tulsa, Oklahoma. She is also survived by several cousins, many nieces and nephews, 4 sister-in-laws and 1 brother-in-law. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her 8 brothers and sisters, and the love of her life, Melbourne Salmon.
