Obituary of Tommy Phillip Burden

Tommy Phillip Burden was born on June 17, 1954 in Sapulpa, Oklahoma to his parents Thomas Harding Burden and Margaret Marie Bruton. Tommy went to be with the Lord on October 3, 2017 at the age of 63.

 Tommy graduated from Sapulpa High School in 1972.  Tommy found and married his childhood neighbor, friend, and eternal sweetheart Barbara Jean Robinson.  The two were married on April 8, 1975 and had a long lasting marriage of 42 years!

 Tommy was a mischievous boy who grew up to be a mischievous man. He loved to tell a joke, or razz someone to get a chuckle out of them. Tommy was a full time practical jokester. He enjoyed camping, riding in his boat, and riding his motorcycles. He loved to tinker, and work was never a dirty word when it came to his machine shop. He loved to tear stuff up, and somehow it never got put back together.

 He was a maintenance electrician by trade. He started out at Liberty Glass where most of his extended family worked as well. He also was employed by Taylor Manufacturer, International American Ceramics, Bartlett Collins, and Borden Dairy. Tommy had a slew of friends and he never met a stranger. He was the guy most wanted to hang out with just to see what he was up to next! 

 Barbara and Tommy had a beautiful baby girl, Sheila Jo in 1977 and she was his pride and joy. If you know Sheila, you know she IS Tommy’s daughter.  Sheila portrays several of the same characteristics of her dad and has been the rock to their family for the last forty years.

 Tommy was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Burden; his mother, Margaret Bruton Burden; sister, Alla Marie Burden Jacobs (Tootie); brother-in-law, Jimmy England; and niece, Tobi Russell. 

Tommy is survived by his wife, Barbara, of Sapulpa; daughter, Sheila and her husband Mike, of Sand Springs, three grandchildren, Latham, Jamey, and Steven.  His sister Norma Bentley and her husband James, of Texas and sister Wanda Slavens, of Sapulpa.  Tommy had several brother-in-laws, Randy Hunt of Sapulpa; Richard Jacobs of Texas; Steve Robinson and wife Trisha of Sapulpa; Terry Smith and wife Patti of Tulsa; and Kenneth Robinson and wife Pennie of Wyoming.  Tommy is also survived by 12 nieces and nephews and 25 great-nieces and great-nephews.

Visitation will be held at Green Hill Funeral Home on Sunday, October 8th from 1:00 until 8:00 pm.  Funeral services for Tommy will be held at Green Hill Funeral Home in Sapulpa on Monday, October 9th at 10:00 am.  Tommy will be laid to rest at the Green Hill cemetery in Sapulpa, OK. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Burden family.
