Obituary of Jessie E Simmons
Jessie Earl Simmons, 66, of Sapulpa, OK lost his fight with cancer Thursday, January 11, 2018 at home.
Jessie was born in Tulsa, OK August 18, 1951 to William Willard Simmons and Hazel Mae (McCombs) Simmons. He married Rebecca G. McLain September 22, 1975. Jessie graduated from Sapulpa High School in 1969 and earned his Journeyman’s license with the Iron Workers Local Union #584. He worked as a structural steel worker in the 1980s and 1990s working on many iconic buildings in Tulsa and the surrounding area. He retired from the Sapulpa Parks and Recreation Department in 2015. Jessie had a passion for coaching softball. He was a founding member of the Sapulpa Girls Softball Association Board and served on the board for more than a decade. He coached for more than three decades taking many teams to nationals and winning the national championship in 2004. His impact on softball is long lasting and immeasurable. Jessie also enjoyed hunting and fishing and animals of all kinds. A cowboy at heart, he spent the last 8 years of his life in the country surrounded by the trees, blackberry patches, and animals he loved. He never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand. A loving husband, daddy, and papa, a friendly neighbor, a passionate coach, his loss will be felt by many.
Jessie is survived by his wife of 42 years, Becky; daughter, Sherry Kendall, of Colorado; son, Larry Simmons, of California; son, Kenny Lawmaster, of Tulsa, OK; daughter, Jessica (Bill) Hook of Texas; five grandchildren, Gail, Colton, Eleanor, Dillon, and Adeline; one great-grandchild, Miranda; three brothers and many friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Cecil Simmons.
A graveside service will be held Monday, January 15 at 2:00 pm at Highland Cemetery in Oilton, OK. A memorial service will be held in Sapulpa, OK at a later date. The family has entrusted the services to Green Hill Funeral Home. 400 E. Teel Road Sapulpa / 9182242312
