When my wife, Sharon, and I were young,with a young family, we started going to church at a small fellowship in Coffeyville. We met Melvin and Pinky there and established a friendship. We didn't have a lot of money then, and it was hard for us to go to both the morning and evening services. The Adam's would invite us to their home for the day, eat lunch and supper with them, and then go to the evening service. We enjoyed that time of fellowship and got to know them. Many times Melvin would say--Lets put on the dog and go for a ride in the Caddy! He had a nice cadilac, which was always a treat for us to go on a Sunday afternoon ride. Both he and Pinky really went out of their way to accomodate us and we appreciated it. We still talk about it to this day. Melvin was a very giving person who we thought a lot of. He even came to Independence and textured the walls of our old 2-story house. I remember it was very hot, and Melvin took a break, sat down on the stairs and grabbed the floor fan. He held that floor fan right in front of him to blow the air right in his face! (he was hot!) Melvin was a very giving person, and we appreciated him very much. We'll be seeing him again!
