R. Charles Carson (CHARLIE) was born February 23, 1932 in Sapulpa, Oklahoma to Margaret and Randolph Carson. He passed away September 2nd after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease culminating in a stroke. He graduated from Sapulpa High School in 1950 and was immediately sent to Korea as a PFC with the Oklahoma National Guard. He graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University in 1956 with an AB in Chemistry. In 1959 he moved with his family to Garden Grove, California where he went to work for Beckman Instruments for the next 18 years as a Process Engineer. His professional career also included 10 years with Northrop and his final employment with McDonnell Douglas. He was very active in the community serving as President of Garden Grove Jaycees, board member for the California Junior Miss pageant, chairman of the Garden Grove March of Dimes campaign, Little League Manager for Cypress Federal Little League, Bingo Chairman for Cypress High School Band & Pageantry Booster Club and Committee Chairman for the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. He was an ordained Deacon at Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church in Los Alamitos. In his eyes, his biggest accomplishment was winning the city Championship for Cypress Little League. His honors included receiving the Order of the Arrow from the Boy Scouts and being nominated as "Man of the Year" for the Cypress Chamber of Commerce. He also received a PTA award for his community service. In 1994 he and his wife moved to Oceanside where he became active in the 1st Presbyterian Church of Oceanside serving on the Missions Ministry Team and working with AMOR to build houses in Mexico. Charlie was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret when he was age 5, his father and step-mother as well as his 1st wife Judy Thomas. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Virginia (Ginny), his brother Eddie, sister Ginnie (Joe) Pope; 4 sons, Bill, Jim (Melissa), Larry and Kevin (Mindy) Carson; two step-sons, Randy (Yvette) and Steve (Lisa) Testut; and 15 grandchildren, Chad, Sean, Ashley, Amber, Avery and Chase Carson; Tyler Hunt; Ashlyn, Kassidy, Riley, Jayce, Sabrina, Michael, Austin & Emily Testut as well as several nieces and nephews. Per Charlie's wishes he will be laid to rest next to his mother, Margaret in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. There will be a funeral service in the chapel at Green Hill Funeral Home 400 E. Teel Rd, Sapulpa on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Reverend Charlie Moss will be officiating.
