William Dean Whinery Sr. passed away Friday, September 26, 2008 at St. Francis Hospital, Tulsa.
William was born February 18, 1937, in Coffeyville, Kansas to William Lloyd Whinery and Muriel Florence Whinery. He graduated from Sapulpa High School in 1955. He married Janet Sue Ford in Okmulgee on April 24, 1978.
He was a retired veteran after 30 years with the 45th Infantry Division with the Oklahoma Army National Guard. Also served a tour in Vietnam.
William was preceded in death by his father, William Lloyd Whinery; his mother, Muriel Florence Whenery; one brother, Michael Louis Whinery and son, William Dean Whinery, Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Janet Whinery of Sapulpa; his children, James D. Whinery and wife Pam of Sapulpa, Larry D. Whinery and wife Joyce of Sapulpa, Terry G. Whinery of Sapulpa, William Jeremy Whinery and wife Beth of Sapulpa, Jamie De Ann Harsha and husband Jeremy of Sapulpa; step-son, Terrill D. Ford Jr. and wife Zona of Cleveland and daughter-in-law, Mary Whinery of Okemah.
His brothers, Phil Whinery and wife Sara of Kellyville, Ronald Whinery and wife Sue of Grand Lake; his sisters, Sanda K. Dickens and husband, Wayne of Bixby, Anna Jo Harvey of Sand Springs, Glenda Glenn and husband, Butch of Sapulpa, Linda Newton of Kansas, Oklahoma. Brother-in-law, Danny G. Smith and wife, Mary of Tulsa, and Bradley I. Smith III and Jana of Cleveland.
He is survived by twenty grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
