Obituary of Norbert Gerber

Norbert (Norman) Francis Gerber was born May 10, 1923 in South Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Norman was the son of  Peter and Mary Gerber.  Norman married Helen in Las Vegas on March 26, 1960 and shortly moved to Sapulpa, Oklahoma where he remained until his passing on March 2, 2009 with his wife by his side.   At the young age of 20, he went to join the army and served until his honorable discharge as a Private First Class on March 03, 1943.  Norman was on one of three hospital ships.  They were the Hope, the Comfort and the Charity, which is the only one still in commission today, under the Unicef Flag.   Norman is survived by his wife Helen of 49 years, daughter, Laura Minney and husband, Allen, three grandchildren; Sheila Edwards and husband, Mike, Jennifer Watkins and husband, John, and Justin Minney, four great grandchildren; Mackenzie and John Jr. Watkins, Hannah Edwards and Hailey Minney.   He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Peter and Mary Gerber, his six sisters and one brother and his infant daughter, Mary Elizabeth.   When norman was able he was very active in his church, St. Clement in Bixby, where he was Mr. Fix it.  When he retired from UBA Heat, he desided retirement wasn't for him, so he went to work for St. Francis Hospital.  After many years he did retire.  He spent most of his time outside fixing things, feeding and watching the birds, and doing crossword puzzles.   His biggest joy was making wood crafts and painting them.  He would make wood piggy banks, toy boxes, bird houses and baby doll cribs and he would just go out and piddle.  Visitation: Visitation at Green Hill Funeral Home from 9AM to 9PM  on Tuesday and Wednesday Service: A Funeral Mass will be held at Green Hill Funeral Home Chapel at 12:00 Noon on Thursday, March 5, 2009.  Burial will follow at South Heights Cemetery in Sapulpa.
