Obituary of RUBY LEWIS
Please share a memory of RUBY to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ruby Nancy Lewis (Nancy Parlee Prater) is the great granddaughter of an infant girl found abandoned on the trail of tears. The family bible recorded April 24, 1908 as her birth. Later, Ruby admitted the birth certificate application was incorrect, but what woman wouldn't want to be one year younger ;o). She was a true American pioneer witnessing an incredible technology transformation. She traveled across America as a young child in a Conestoga wagon over jet, learned natural medicine and pharmaceuticals from her mother on their Salem Missouri farm, survived the great depression loving vegetables, sewed hospital tents and parachute while learning how to shoot from the WWII Army boys (she still was a crack shot at 92), worked as Harvey House waitress serving Will Rogers who tipped her $1 for a breakfast bill. Later she would recount, she should have had him autograph the bill, but she needed that dollar. As a young adult, Ruby opened a small Hollywood, CA grocery store catering to the stars but moved after deciding she didn't like earthquakes finally settling in Sand Springs, Oklahoma after a short detour thru Texas. As an energetic activist, Ruby was a founder of the Sand Springs Women's Chamber of Commerce, regularly soliciting petitions in support of community causes. Ruby and the love of her life, Simon Paul Lewis actively participated in the Eastern Stars and several bowling leagues across Oklahoma. In fact, Ruby bowled a perfect 300 game in Altus Oklahoma. In her later years, Ruby always enjoyed gardening and taking care of her beloved pets while taking care of "OLD PEOPLE" as an LPN home care nurse with Grandmothers INC.
Ruby was the mother of one daughter: Viola Mae, three grandchildren: Nancy Lee, Michael Paul and Mark David and two precious daughters in law Shirley and JoAnn. Additionally, she has six great grandchildren: Tonya, Stefani, Justin, Erica, Nicole and Christy and six great- great grandchildren and one son in law.
Her ancient ancestors, parents, siblings, husband and daughter Viola as well as many friends met her at Heaven's Gate.
