Obituary of Samuel Clinton Walkup

Please share a memory of Samuel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Samuel Clinton Walkup was born in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma at 4:50 am on Tuesday Oct 10, 1961, to parents Bill & Joann Walkup.

He attended Sapulpa schools. In 1985 he enlisted in the Army and was assigned to A troop, 2d Squadron, 1st Calvary, 2d Armored Division, from which he was honorably discharged with the rank of SP4.

Clint liked to cook, actually, he liked to eat therefore he was pretty much forced to work his cooking skills. He would often watch cooking shows on tv to get new ideas to try. Anyone that shared a meal at his house can testify that he was quite a good cook.

Clint loved to learn and was fascinated with shows about nature, history, science, travel and how things were made. He often said that he would love to visit parts of the world he has never seen, see animals he had never heard of before, and be hands on with different types of machinery to learn how it functioned and how it was made. His passion for this was evident in his amazing ability to offer on cue random facts and detailed information on any such topic and then throw in something he made up to see how gullible you were, especially when talking to the young ones.

Growing up he loved to take things apart to see how they worked, he liked working with his hands, fixing and building things. On his time off you most likely would find him in his shop. While he did graduate from Tulsa Welding school, it makes sense that he would ultimately end up with a career in maintenance.

Clint loved spending time outdoors especially around water and seized every opportunity he could. Family and friends were very important to Clint. He loved hanging out with them, especially the grand kids. When asked “what did you do today?”, it would not be unusual for him to say that he was helping a friend, or that he had stopped to help a stranger broke down on the side of the road.

Mostly he loved to make people laugh, even if the joke was at his expense. Truly with Clint’s loving heart and boundless sense of humor, no matter what, he could always win you over in the end.

In the summer of 2016 sitting in his living room Clint surrendered his life to Jesus.

He departed this life on Sunday morning at approximately 10:00 am on September 23, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents Bill & Joann Walkup; and brother Jon (Jon boy) Walkup. He is survived by son Jeff Ashby & fiancée Kalie Cook, grandchildren Devon, Graclynn Ashby; son Matt Ashby & fiancée Katrina Norris, grandchildren Rylie, Madisyn Ashby; sister Claudia & Bill Smith, nephew David Clinton & Amanda, their children Bryan, Dustin, Kenny Moses; sister Christe Walkup, niece Jennifer Choate; brother Mark & Eneida Walkup, niece Sabrina, nephews AJ Kannard, Samuel Walkup; sister Cheryl & Lonnie Hudgins, niece Sara & Ryan Bellatti, nephew Tim & Whitney Hudgins; sister in law Amy Walkup, niece Mackenzie Walkup.
