Edsel Raymond Welker took his first steps in his new Heavenly Home to be with the Lord on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2019. He was born August 21, 1936 in Nashoba, Oklahoma to Johnnie and Lucille Welker.
Edsel moved to Ft. Thomas, Arizona with his family around the age of 12. After completing high school in Arizona, he joined the U.S. Marine Corp and served for 6 years. He returned to Oklahoma after his service and married Florence Gregory and the couple settled in the Sapulpa area. They enjoyed 57 years of marriage and were blessed with 2 children. He worked for Safeway/Homeland in the warehouse, a Teamsters Union member, and retired after 30 years. He was a good provider for his family. Edsel was a kind, bighearted and affectionate man. He was good natured and enjoyed teasing everyone. He was a mentor to many young people in his capacity as a coach, umpire and referee for football, baseball, softball soccer and basketball. He enjoyed spending time with kids and was always very involved in sports. Edsel also enjoyed woodworking, hunting and fishing but his passion was music. He loved playing the guitar and had the opportunity to play with many people.
