Obituary of Betty Jo Reynolds

Betty Jo Childress Reynolds was born in Seminole, Oklahoma, on June 1, 1929, to Eddie Monroe Childress and Nora Alice Toops. Betty passed away on April 16, 2019, at the age of 89.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her six siblings, husband Claud James “Jim” Reynolds, son James Paul Reynolds, and grandson David Glenn Buckner.  She is survived by daughter Brenda Buckner and husband Glenn of Berryhill, daughter Anita Mayberry and husband Lewis of Bristow, and daughter-in-law Jean Reynolds of Kellyville. Betty will be greatly missed by her numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

As a young child, Betty suffered from a crippling case of Rheumatic Fever which left her unable to walk.  Once she recovered from the illness, she demonstrated her strength and determination to survive by learning to walk again. In 1945, Betty married Jim Reynolds.  Together they had three children: Brenda, Anita and Paul. Throughout their married life they shared the work load, both in Jim’s refrigeration business and in the convenience store that they owned in Berryhill.

Betty & Jim enjoyed extensive travels together.  They journeyed throughout North America--from Canada to Mexico--in their motor home, sharing a love of site-seeing and fishing.  After nursing Jim through his tough battle and eventual death from cancer, she once again packed her suitcase, visiting Hawaii, Israel and Jerusalem with her sister Naomi. Betty loved talking over her travels with her grandchildren.

Betty loved her grandchildren. She always kept her candy drawer fully stocked and her VCR ready to play Old Yeller.  She was a talented quilt-maker, painter and chef.  She also took great pleasure in gathering her family around her.  Every Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas she would call them all together, preparing food for days in advance. Betty was a proud member of the First Christian Church of Kellyville, serving in many capacities throughout the years.

Visitation will be from 5-7 pm on Thursday, April 18, 2019 at Green Hill Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be held in the Green Hill Memorial Mausoleum Chapel on Friday, April 19th at 2:00 pm.  The family has entrusted services to Green Hill Funeral Home.  400 E.
