Zelma Hunt

Obituary of Zelma Edith Hunt

Please share a memory of Zelma to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Our Mother was born on February 12, 1920 in Hollis, Oklahoma.  She and our Dad had the same birthday and was one year younger than Dad.  She worked at J.J. Newberry’s for approximately 15 years until the store closed.  She became a Christian while living in California at a Billy Graham crusade in 1950.  She taught Sunday School at First Baptist Church for about 50 years in the 4 and 5-year-old classes.

Our mother was very talented in many ways.  She did the canning from their garden.  She could sew, embroidery, knit and crochet.  She could crochet beautifully and made her grandchildren crocheted toys.  She taught both Judy and I how to sew and she taught me how to crochet, which I enjoy so much even today.

Our Mom and Dad were married 73 years and loved to go camping and fishing and traveled throughout all the states except Alaska.  They also had gone to Nova Scotia.  They played cards or dominoes weekly and enjoyed many trips with their best friends, Opal and Lawrence Kelley.

One special thing Mom would say whenever I was unhappy was “You make your own day.”  I thought that was a profound statement.

She is preceded in death by her husband J.C. Hunt.

Zelma was survived by daughters Judith Kendall, Donna Barnes and husband Mike, grandchildren Michelle Barnes McCutchan, Darry K. Kendall, Brian M. Barnes and wife Stephanie, great-grandchildren Dalton Barnes and wife Leslie, Drake Barnes, Abbie Barnes, Kyle Kendall, Jessica Keigley, Danielle Johnson, and Great-great grandchild Emmerson Barnes.
