Obituary of Verna Mae Johnson

Verna Johnson, 82, of Talala passed away in her home Thursday, August 1, 2019 after a lengthy battle with Dementia and other related illnesses.

She was born March 6, 1937 in Fortuna, CA to Ira S. and Addie Patton.  She was the middle of three children.  After completing high school, she married Daniel Johnson on May 10, 1957 in Waikiki Baptist Church in Hawaii, where Dan was stationed in the Navy.

She pursued a career in office management at Safeway Stores, TulPro, Inc. and Oologah-Talala Public Schools Cafeteria.  Her work in the cafeteria was most rewarding, because her passion was to make sure everyone that crossed her path was fed.  She was often seen refilling salad bar items with a smile on her face.

After Dan’s completion of service in the Navy, the couple moved to Northern California to be near family and to raise four sons.  When Dan’s employer transferred him to Tulsa in 1974, they chose to make Oologah their community.  Side by side, the couple enjoyed raising cattle and watching their sons participate in sports.

She is survived by:  Dan Johnson, her husband of 62 years; sons Rocky and wife, Johanna of Talala, Brody and wife, Robin of Collinsville, Marty and wife, Diana of Nowata, Jody and wife, Trudi of Talala; twelve grandchildren Jörn, Jön, Whitney, Corey, Kisa, Hope, Nataley, Cody, Lindsay, Thorin, Tanner and Karyssa; fifteen great-grandchildren and counting; siblings Shirley Brooks of Lakeport, CA and Wes Patton of Orland, CA. 

She was preceded in death by her parents Ira S. and Addie Patton.
