Obituary of Bobby Joe Hurt, Sr.

Bobby Joe Hurt Sr. was born on January 18, 1936 to Arthur “Bud” Hurt and Reverend Kathleen Hurt. Bob passed away in his home while surrounded by family. He entered into the arms of our Savior on August 18, 2019 at the age of 83 years and 7 months.

Bob enlisted into the United States Navy on November 26, 1952 where he spent much of his time on the USS Columbus. He left the Navy with an honorable discharge on September 10, 1957. Bob married his bride on June 30, 1958 and they built their home in Mounds, Oklahoma. Bob and Ramona had 5 children: Norman, Bobby Joe II, Cathy, Woodie & Mike. Bob was known as a man of many trades and spent over 50 years working in the glass industry with 37 years being at Liberty Glass in Sapulpa, Ok. After retirement Bob worked as a glass industry world consultant where his travels led him to South Africa, Italy and Mexico. One of Bob’s many joys was spending time at the family farm on Tiger Mountain where he taught his children and grandchildren how to fish, hunt and bale hay. He enjoyed calf roping, working on his bulldozer and working his cattle ranch on Tiger Mountain.

Bob was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ramona Hurt, James Norman Hurt-son, Buster Hurt, brother, Mary Jane Hurt- sister, Lillie Mae Tracy-sister, Martha Nulik-sister, Geneva Gates-sister, Reverend Clyde Hurt-brother, Reverend J.D. Hurt-brother, Tandy Haley-brother-in-law, Louis Earnest-brother-in-law, Audie Ernest Walker-sister-in-law, Helen Hurt-sister-in-law, Betty Hurt- sister-in-law, Ima Hurt- sister-in-law, AG Barkley- brother-in-law, .

Bob was survived by: 4 children and their spouses: Bobby and Angie Hurt, Cathy & Jeff Balthis, Woodie & Jana Hurt and Mike Hurt. 3 siblings: Sue Barkley-sister, Woodrow & Helen Hurt-brother, Reverend Bill Hurt, brother. Linda Been- sister-in-law, Sonny Been-brother-in-law, Wanda Haley- sister-in-law. 21 grandchildren and spouses: Cassie & Oscar Pound, Michael & Kimber Champlain, Kimberlie & Kevin O’Donnell, David & Jamie Balthis, Willie Balthis, Debbie and Robbie Pigg, Sarah and Trevor Dowdy, Railey and Devlin McVicker, Jacob Hurt, Reba and Francisco Menendez, Justin Hurt, Matt Hurt, Sandra and Chase Shaffer, Shelly Hurt, Brian and Sherry Hurt, Rachel Hurt, Lacy Rankin, Wesley Miller, Josh Castleberry, Stefan Castleberry and Bobby Joe III. 36 great grandchildren: Evan, Jake, Logan, Blake, Maddux, Haley, Adalyn, Jason, Paige, Colton, Treyson, Renna, Jadyn, Connor, Easton, Ellie, Rylan, Erica, Autumn, Lilah, Cash, Sophie, Francisco, Malakai, Claire, Casen, Chase, Dustin, Tiea, Melanie, Gabe, Nick, Connor, Noah, Kinsley and Hadley. Countless other family and friends.

There will be a viewing at Green Hill Chapel on Wednesday, August 21, 2019 from 4pm-8pm.

Bob’s celebration of life will be held on Thursday, August 22, 2019 at 10am, Green Hill Chapel, 400 E Teel Rd. Sapulpa, Ok 74066 with Oscar Pound officiating.

Bob will be laid into his final resting place, next to his wife and son at Salt Creek Cemetery in Wilson, Oklahoma immediately following the service.
