Obituary of James Hilton Markley
James Hilton Markley passed away quietly at home with Gene, his wife of forty-five years, by his side on August 21, 2019.
Born in the small community of Bowden, OK, in 1937, he grew up to spend all of his life in and around Tulsa and Sapulpa, OK.
Growing up, Jim worked with his father preparing and throwing the local paper. His specialty, leaning out of the car and throwing the Tulsa paper over the roof of the car usually putting the paper on the customer’s porch, is legendary.
Cars you say? It would be an understatement to say that Jim loved cars. The Chevelle, the Olds 442, the Camaro RS and the ever popular MG were all his pride and joy, but surely the automotive love of his life was that lovely red PT Cruiser.
An avid sportsman, no clay pigeon was safe from his sharp eye. Many trophies were won by Jim at shooting competitions. Shotguns and rifles, he could shoot all day long. He loved the Sooners, loving every moment of every game-even the losses.
Games of skill were his forte. A champion chess player with uncountable trophies, a steady hand at winning pool, and a Monopoly player that could bring almost anyone to tears, Jim played to win and he often did so. But he also knew how to lose with grace.
Working for the greater part of his life as a credit manager, Jim worked hard all his life. His family never wanted for a comfortable life. He will be sorely missed by his spouse and the many family members he leaves behind.
