Obituary of Tony Ray Varnell
Tony Ray Varnell passed from this life about 3:15 pm Sunday, October 20th at the OSU Osteopathic Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma where he was rushed by ambulance, dying shortly upon arrival. He was at home with his sister Gail Varnell Moreino when he became very ill. He passed easily without a lot of pain. He battled cancer for the last few years. He had expressed strongly that he did not want to be on painkillers when he died, and he was not.
He graduated Mannford High School in 1960. He spent four years in the military, and was at the Berlin wall when the Russian’s rolled tanks up to the wall.
The Russians were shooting at them, but they were instructed not to shoot back. After the military, Tony married, and he and Jackie had three beautiful daughters. His daughter Vicky Lynn Varnell preceded him in death. He is survived by two daughters Tonya Marie and Tina, and by one son, Mark. He is also survived by one brother, Dwight Varnell of Pawnee, OK and by two sisters Betty Putt of Sacramento, CA and Gail Moreino of Dallas, TX. and by a host of friends and relatives. Tony was the most lovable person you could met. He made you love him.
His hobby was collecting old artifacts from years gone by. He loved talking and laughing with family and friends, and loved to go to Old Mannford Reunions. He was known around Mannford for doing beautiful neat yard work. He was very congenial, and loved children, and children loved him.
He will be missed more than words can express.
