Obituary of Carl George Martellaro

Carl George Martellaro went to be with the Lord December 9, 2019 at the age of 84.  He was born in Salida Colorado, August 3, 1935.  

 

Carl first attended Catholic school and was an altar boy growing up.  He later attended Salida High School where he held records in Swimming and Track.  He also lettered in Football, Basketball, Baseball and Band.  He enlisted in the United States Air Force 13 Jan 1955 at the age of 19. He received the Good Conduct Metal 12 Jan 1958.  After serving in Africa with the title Air Policeman he was released from Active Military Service with an Honorable Discharge 13 Nov 1958 from Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico.  He proudly served and carried the honor with him.  He later worked as a civilian as the commissary butcher at Fort Carson Army Base, Colorado Springs for 26 years. Carl was given by the Mayor of Salida CO. the key to the city for killing the largest bear on record just outside of Salida. After retiring he went to college taking art classes.  Carl also received the Ambassador for Peace Metal 22 June 2017 for his service during the Korean Conflict.  

 

Carl loved his Lord, family, dogs and dark chocolate.  He was an avid hunter and angler, he also enjoyed painting and gardening.  

 

He is preceded in death by Rebecca his wife of 35 years, mother Bertha Luna Cancino, Father Carl Martellaro Sr., and brother Anthony Rodrigues.  He is survived by sisters Donna Scrudder of Broken Arrow OK, Virlea Hall of Portland OR, Barbara Carter of Astoria OR, brothers Donald Martellaro of Chico CA, Carl Martellaro Jr. of Chico CA, Jerry Rodrigues of Pueblo CO, Eugene Rodrigues of Gresham OR, daughter Lisa Martellaro Palmer of Van Nuys CA, granddaughters Crystal Heflin of Pueblo CO, Mary Reynosa of Northridge CA, and many nieces and nephews.

 

He will be loved and greatly missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
