Obituary of Janet Kay Wilder

Please share a memory of Janet to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Janet Kay Wilder died peacefully, surrounded by her family, in Sapulpa, Oklahoma on January 28th, 2020. She was born on January 1st, 1950 in Oklahoma City. Her father Hugh would always tell people that she missed being the first baby born in Oklahoma City by just a few hours. Janet was a beloved daughter, mother, grandmother and partner. In addition to all of those things, she was also a fiercely independent person in her own right who unapologetically lived on her own terms until the very last day of her life. Janet was a skilled seamstress and pianist, an avid reader, and a brilliant student. Janet enjoyed adventure. She danced at Studio 54 and was known to take her middle schooler to rock shows, the most impressive of which being the Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Foo Fighters in 2000. She was exceedingly cool. Unfortunately, Janet lived with multiple sclerosis, which she faced with exceptional bravery, but which also limited the scope of her adventuring in the later years of her life. It was a big part of her life, but it in no way defined her. Janet was a strong, brave, intelligent, funny, loving, one-of-a-kind woman and she will be dearly missed. Her surviving family is sad that she is no longer here, but takes comfort in the knowledge that she is now at rest after a long struggle. Janet is preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Gladys Blackmon. She is survived by her partner of 14 years, Charles Harkey; brother, Jim Blackmon of Grove, Oklahoma; Her daughters and their respective spouses: Katie and Chad Carter of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Lori and Adam Sloan of Sapulpa, Oklahoma; and three granddaughters: Gwendolyn, Ava, and Delilah. Services for Ms. Wilder will be held at Green Hill Funeral Home at 500 E. Teel Rd., Sapulpa, OK, 74066 at 10:30 A.M. www.greenhillok.com .
